Valley Folk

We will be putting on
a RENT PARTY!
on Saturday, January 10th

...in the tradition of musical rent parties (jazz and blues) of Harlem or of NYC where Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie called them hootenannies. This will be a party to raise enough money to pay rent for the year so that we can still keep the door prices accessible to most at $10. We might even be able to offer a student discount for the year if we raise enough to pay the rent.

It will be a potluck, BYOB, with sing-around and music sessions. There would even be the chance to have 2 different jams in two different rooms if we had enough interest from various musicians. Open to any styles of music, as long as folk is one of them. Celtic, Jazz, Cajun, Blues, dance tunes, classical, madrigal singing- whatever people can do informally that provide chances for some to participate, some to watch...and some to just eat at the buffet potluck!

We'll be sending out a mailer asking all the friends of Valley Folk to come to the party and donate rent money--or send in their donations if they can't make the party. You can help make it an even better party with your participation!

Bring your buffet-ready hors d'oeuvres, casseroles, sides (and don't forget a serving utensil!), and something you would like to drink, your donation ($10 or more is suggested), and get ready for a great musical evening! If you sing or play an instrument, even better--bring your instrument along, too!

				Beginning in January, we are going to be subject to paying rent again after a short free ride at our current venue in Elmira. If you have not yet been to Valley Folk, the location is 254 Baldwin Street on the corner with Grey. We are in the art gallery located in the carriage house behind the Arnot Art Museum, being operated by Rural Research Labs (RRL)--a tongue-in-cheek name for a collaboration of cutting edge artists who create and display the kind of art that would not be represented in the more conservative Arnot Art Museum. They had a rent-free start--and took us along for the ride--but now we all have to get back to reality and come up with the rent money. So...
