Ranging from the dyed-in-the-wool folk sound of Peter, Paul & Mary to the harmonic complexity of Crosby, Stills & Nash, Gathering Time is a folk-rock trio described recently as "getting a whole beehive-full of buzz" on the Long Island folk scene. Actually, their original songs also reveal the influences of The Byrds, Joni Mitchell, America and the Eagles and they've been known to sprinkle in some of those classics among their sets. Glen Roethel, Hillary Foxsong & Stuart Markus are fast becoming known for their seamless vocal blend, memorable melodies, meaningful lyrics and easy-going, fun performance chemistry. Bob McKillop of MaineFolkMusic.com writes, "Gathering Time ... has perfected two separate but related art forms: three part harmony and having a ball on stage! When they harmonize, some sort of fundamental, cosmic concordance occurs that makes you very happy that you have ears.” The reaction of the New Jersey Folk Project's Margaret Crowl, who emceed the trio opening for Aztec Two-Step, is typical: ""Isn't it a great thing about folk music, that you can come to a venue ... see a band you've never heard of, and get blown away?!" Gathering Time's 2007 re-make of Peter Yarrow's "Light One Candle" has been spun on stations ranging from NYC's top-rated WCBS-FM to Israel's Galilee plains; their November, 2008 CD "Songs of Hope and Freedom" won wide acceptance on folk stations nationwide for its tributes to the nobility and resilience of the human spirit. Gathering Time includes two Long Island folk stalwarts: Glen Roethel and Stuart Markus, both of whom have been part of the local acoustic folk scene for some time. Together with newcomer Hillary Foxsong, the three have been turning heads with their tight harmonies and vocal blend. The three actually started working together in the early summer of 2006, though they didn't decide on a name until late November of 2007. They met in Oyster Bay, NY as Glen's local summer street-fair performance became an impromptu jam session when Stuart impulsively jumped on a mike with Hillary, who had been harmonizing with Glen since making a similar impulsive move the year before.
